Road problems increase demand for air transport.

Automotive, food, beverage and chemical industries are the ones that most demand emergency air transport in the Northeast.

Northeast region is one of those affected, attracting logistics companies from the South and Southeast to meet emergency cargo demands.

In Brazil, 65% of cargo handling is carried out on highways (according to the Executive Report of the National Logistics Plan 2025) and poor pavement conditions generate a cost of R$ 1.072 billion with liters of diesel, which is equivalent to an expenditure an extra R$ 4.89 billion for trucks from road freight transport companies.

One of the regions affected by the poor conditions of the highways is the Northeast, which has, in its territorial composition, nine states and an area of 1,558,000 km², corresponding to 18% of the territory of Brazil. According to a survey by the National Transport Confederation (CNT), 71.3% of the paved road network in the Northeast has some type of problem with the pavement, signaling or road geometry.

This situation has increased demand in the logistics sector for air freight transport, especially in this region. According to ANAC (National Civil Aviation Agency), in 2022, 572,472,562 kilos of air cargo were transported at the ten main airports in Brazil, including Recife/Guararapes International Airport (PE), which transported 47,475,704 kilos .

According to logistics specialist Rodrigo Lizot, CEO of Prestex, a company specializing in B2B emergency logistics solutions, the segments that most demand emergency air transport in the Northeast are: the automobile industry, food, beverage and chemical products.

Data from the Investe Recife portal, created by the City Hall to encourage investments in the city, show that current conditions have encouraged companies headquartered in the South and Southeast to settle in the Northeast, expanding services by air transport. “All of this is reflected in the logistics sector, with a growing movement of cargo, mainly by air, making companies like Prestex, which has been in the sector for 20 years with bases in Caxias do Sul (RS) and in the Jabaquara neighborhood, in the city of São Paulo ( SP), to start a base in the city of Recife (PE) in 2023”, explained the CEO of the company Rodrigo Lizot.

According to Recife's Economic Development Bulletin, the city has consolidated itself as a strategic business hub. It was considered the best city in the Region in the 2022 Entrepreneurial Cities Index, accounting for 166,000 active companies and a positive balance of 16,336 companies in 2022.

Recife also has the second best airport in the world, according to the global ranking prepared by AirHelp. “Working with emergency air cargo means quickly putting together a strategic puzzle to solve each company's problem,” said logistics specialist Rodrigo Lizot.
