FIESC will have a seat on the World Foreign Trade Council.

The organization brings together more than 12,000 chambers of commerce from all over the world, all of which are private.

The president of the Foreign Trade Chamber of the Federation of Industries of Santa Catarina (FIESC), Maria Teresa (Maitê) Bustamante, will join, as of January, the General Council of the Chambers of Commerce/World Chambers of Commerce (ICC).

“It is an opportunity to monitor and influence decision-making in bodies in which the ICC has a permanent seat”, observes Maitê. She explains that the ICC is the only private organization that is an observer at the United Nations and actively participates in the World Trade Organization and the World Customs Organization. “Working together with all these institutions that decide norms and rules that must be complied with by international business operators, represents for FIESC's Foreign Trade Chamber the consolidation of a work that has been carried out in the long term”, he adds.

“The word we are going to defend is agility; in the sense of taking international trade decisions, based on legal security, best trade practices, compliance, governance, defending in a very intransigent way the transparency of business”, says Maitê. “We will continue to defend the ever greater reduction of bureaucracy; It must be recognized that we have advanced a lot in eliminating paperwork, but bureaucracy is not limited to eliminating paperwork, it goes much further, in the sense of administrative and management steps and processes, whether customs or administrative”, he clarifies. “It is increasingly necessary to grant the industrialist, entrepreneur or foreign trade operator more autonomy, more confidence and more responsibility”, he stresses.

The term of the new board ends in June 2025. The first meeting will take place at the end of February 2023 in Bogotá, Colombia.
