Port of Santos wins authorization to operate its first liquid bulk terminal in Porto do Itaqui (MA)

ANP authorizes the operation of the liquid bulk terminal through the Port of Santos, located in the Port of Itaqui. The terminal has a nominal capacity of 20 thousand square meters.

The Port of Santos obtained authorization from the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) to operate its first liquid bulk terminal, called TGL-3, located in Porto do Itaqui, in the state of Maranhão. Porto is a distribution hub for oil products for the Northeast, Midwest and North regions and has great potential for expansion with a focus on agribusiness.

With a nominal capacity of 20,000 m³, distributed in seven tanks for storing diesel, anhydrous ethanol, gasoline and biodiesel, the terminal in Porto do Itaqui has connections with maritime, road, pipeline and rail modes and is one of the three terminals purchased by Port of Santos in an auction held last year, a greenfield, with the start of activities scheduled for 2026 and two brownfields that were already in operation.

The Port of Santos says that, after the terminal at Porto do Itaqui, it will continue working to obtain the license to start operations for its second brownfield terminal, TGL 1, and also on the project for the third area acquired.

Together, these grants have already totaled R$ 157.3 million. The term for each lease is two decades, with the possibility of successive extensions up to a limit of 70 years. The three areas will total 201,000 cubic meters of nominal capacity, after planned investments in capacity expansion, where CapEx can exceed R$500 million.

In addition to the news about the liquid bulk terminal at Porto do Itaqui, the Port of Santos recently had the arrival of a ship with fertilizers that is 229 meters long. The vessel left the city of Huanghua, China, on July 12 with 82,500 tons of fertilizer.

After landing at the Port of Santos, the cargo that arrived on the coast of São Paulo on the 27th of the last month, must follow through railroads to the Midwest region, the largest producer of soybeans and corn in the country, which depends on these imported inputs. According to Wilson Sons, in a statement, the charterer of the ammonium sulfate vessel is Allied Harvest, represented by AgriLaf in Brazil.
