Santa Catarina Indicators Bulletin highlights PIB and foreign trade.

Another edition of the Bulletin of Economic-Fiscal Indicators of Santa Catarina has just been launched by the State Government.

The March bulletin makes clear the 3% GDP growth in 2022, which is now estimated at around BRL 455.6 billion.

The increase was due to improvements in the performance of several sectors, such as: Agriculture with an increase of 2.5%, Industry with a 1.3% increase, and also in the Services area, which also presented an increase of 3.8%.

In a publication released by the Fiesc Observatory, the Central Bank reported that the Economic Activity Index in the state of Santa Catarina in December 2022 surpassed the pre-pandemic period by 5.2%, where the general Brazilian average reached only 2.4%.

The economist of the Government of Santa Catarina, Paulo Zoldan declares that even with the growth of the economy of Santa Catarina, consumers and businessmen in the state have a perception that demonstrates the need for caution. But anyway, the economy of Santa Catarina is recognized for its diversified, competitive economy, which even in adverse times finds room to overcome bottlenecks in its productive environment, and keeps growing above average, adds the economist.

Foreign trade presented a record performance in 2022, when exports from Santa Catarina reached US$ 11.966 billion, surpassing the previous year's record by 16.2%, when it had already grown 26.7% compared to 2020. of exports in SC represented 3.6% of the total exported by Brazil.

The foreign trade area benefited from the good performance in several segments, such as: pulp and paper, wood, chicken, engines and parts. Pork shipments were impacted by lower Chinese demand. And soybeans ended up having reduced availability due to the drop in production. A significant increase in sales to the United States, Chile, Argentina, Mexico and Japan ended up offsetting the decrease in shipments to China.

The value of imports carried out through Santa Catarina ports in 2022 reached US$ 28.989 billion, 16.3% more than in 2021, when growth had already been 54.9%, featuring two consecutive records. Santa Catarina assumes the position of the second Brazilian state that imports the most, representing 10.6% of the total imported by the country.
